We had a lovely 3 days at The Old Bald Peg. We visited at the beginning of November. The cottage is beautifully done up, very comfortable, cosy and homely. Downstairs the lounge has a wood burning stove, smart TV and 2 comfortable sofas. There are several USB charging points and very good wifi. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils and cooking pots, dishes etc that you would need. There was a lovely welcoming basket of goodies including home made jam and marmalade, home made bread, home laid eggs, biscuits and fruit as well as tea, coffee, sugar, milk, butter, locally sourced apple juice, muesli and granola. We didn’t need to buy any supplies.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, the master bedroom is very large with two windows. The bed was huge, extremely comfortable with sumptuous bedding. There were Bath robes and slippers for us to use and the towels were wonderfully thick and fluffy. I really can’t fault this cottage.
We generally had breakfast in the cottage and then ate out. We did cook and stay in on one night. There is a pub called The Stapylton Arms literally two minutes walk from the cottage. The food is very good and the portions rather large. Book in advance. There is plenty to do in the area. We visited Byland Abbey, which is within walking distance, Ampleforth Abbey and estate and Helmsley with its quaint shops and cafes. Sutton Bank nearby is great for beautiful views and plenty of walking and cycling trails.
We will be back
